I have just been pumping out drawing after drawing and none of it has to do with my homework. I don't want to say that's unfortunate, but I suppose it is. But here's some of the work I've been doing lately.

I practiced some animation here with one of the mermaids from Peter Pan

I first started out with a blue photocopy pen and went over it with a tuscan red prisma colored pencil
and then outlined it in a 0.3 Staedtler permanent pen.

and finished it off with some colored pencils!

Here's those cars I was speaking about earlier. I got the Jurassic Park cruiser in here and I was so proud. Not to fond of anything else though.

This is my Mermaid that I threw in photoshop. The original was on lined paper on the back of my "History of Film" notes. Oops.

Here's a Castiel drawing. I drew a really terrible one before this trying to do it in a realistic style... yeah forget that. I should just probably stick with the cartoons.

For my Drawing for Animation class, we had to pick a CG animated character and do a turnaround for it. So I chose Remy from Ratatouille. Here's his turn around.

I watched Hercules recently and I've always LOVED Meg. So I decided to draw her. She's not perfectly on model, but her face came out amazing.

So all of this and only got my quick sketch homework done. I'm probably doomed, but obviously the school is helping me improve my skill and I'm so very happy about this. Today, I have quick sketch, so we'll see how my homework turns out in class and we'll see what we get today. Our teacher has been very upset, not necessarily with our work, but with how quickly we get pushed through the system and it seems we've all missed a crucial level of foundation art that he's expecting. So he's slowed down and has taken some time with us, so our syllabus is all out of whack and every day is a new adventure. So We'll find out what he has for us today!

Food Poisoning and Ugly Cars

So a couple weeks ago, I got myself a nasty case of food poisoning from some bad sushi. Never going to that place again. I was so sick, I thought I was going to die. I woke up that morning for school and felt shaky and nauseous. I figured taking a shower would totally make me feel better. So I got in the shower and felt even worse after getting out. I kept talking myself up, saying I'm just over dramatizing it. So I get in the car and head off to school. I got 20 minutes down the road into the town that my mom lives in, and I get so shaky and sick that I almost pass out. I head to my mom's house and decided to stay there for the day. There's no way I was going to make it to class.
Mom takes care of me while I"m there, but we couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. I thought it might have been the sushi, but I've never had food poisoning before and I just couldn't believe it was that. We thought maybe I got a quick 24 hour flu bug or something. I even took a pregnancy test. I was on the couch in agony when Mom told me she would be going to the store to get some food and medicine. Not even 10 minutes after she left, I almost called an ambulance because I was in such terrible pain.
It wasn't until the next day that I could get a doctor's appointment. I woke up feeling much better that day. The doctor told me that it seriously sounds like I had a case of food poisoning. I just couldn't believe it. Food poisoning. Crazy!
Needless to say, I did not attend school that week. Which was terrible because I was so far behind in the first place. However, I had a friend from class send me my homework and I tried to keep up which actually having the days off gave me lots of time to catch up.

Then I had work on Friday, which was my last day of work with Walmart! So, I was super excited about that. Now I have plenty of time to do my homework, yet, I'm still really lazy. We had to turn in these car drawings for quick sketch and mine came out terrible. But I found out that everyone felt awful about their cars and the teacher feels we've been mislead, so he gave us a different project to get this foundation down that we all seem to be lacking. We were to draw bugs and their pieces and I feel that something clicked! Everything fell into place and I finally got something going!

Here's what I did.

I've also gotten in the mood for drawing a lot this week! Of course not my drawing for animation homework, but I've been drawing everything else.

Aaaaaaaand, things have been heating up on the Walking Dead and I've totally fallen for the Bethyl ship! Daryl x Beth... omg they're so cute! So I drew this.

I do have some other work that I've yet to scan because I've been so very lazy and swamped. So I'll try to get that up for everyone. But for the time being, I hope everyone enjoys this!

Review of Frozen

So I finally got the chance to watch Disney's Frozen. Everyone's been talking about it so much. I've heard both positive and negative things about it. Mostly the negative things come from angry people on Tumblr about how there are no POCs (people of color) in the movie claiming it to be racist, however, the movie takes place in norther Europe where the dominant race is white. So I don't understand that. Anyway, racism aside, I was super stoked to finally watch this because I have loved all the 3-D films that the Walt Disney Animation Studios has put out so far such as Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, Bolt (not so much Chicken Little), but it seemed to have fallen short on what I like in a movie. Also, it was loosely based on The Snow Queen, which was a favorite of mine when I was younger. I watched it so many times. Also the voice of the lead female was Kristen Bell, my favorite female actor of all time. What about this movie should I not like?! Well apparently a lot.

So Frozen was loosely based on The Snow Queen, which was one of my favorite movies to watch as a kid. This one was about two sister princesses. One with magical ice powers, Elsa, one without, Anna. When playing, Else accidentally harms Anna and she almost dies. She is healed by some trolls and warns the family to never let fear control Elsa or her powers will get out of control. Sure enough the girls grow older and Elsa has locked herself away fearful to harm anyone ever again but her powers become out of control when she is made queen triggered by Anna announcing her engagement to a man she knew for only one day, turning their land into a frozen wonderland. Anna makes it her mission to go find Elsa to fix everything.

This movie sounds so great when setting it up, but that seemed to be the issue with the film. It just took a lot of time to set up and not a lot of time to resolve anything. You didn't get to know the characters in depth. There was no character building. It was just kind of like, here's our princesses, hope you like them. Elsa has some issues, but you won't really get to understand those. Here's an ugly ass snowman with absolutely no point to the movie other than delivering some good jokes and having you laugh at his ignorance to what heat will do to him. The character Christof was so cute, but he felt just like a regeneration of Flynn Rider from Tangled, just a bit "oafier". I just felt as if everything had been regurgitated and the story just had issues taking off on it's own.

On top of everything, there was a very large soundtrack behind this movie almost edging on musical level. However, none of the music seemed to fit the situation or the mood. Some of it felt like they were just singing to sing. Like a drinking game where you have to sing for the rest of the night or you have to take another shot. And the scene where Anna's sweet song sings against Elsa's fearful song clashes terribly. Usually two different songs that are sung butt up against one another are meant to melt and make a smooth melody, but this just felt like two people were trying to outsing one another with punk rock versus country. It just came out terrible in my opinion.

I wasn't satisfied with the movie until the very end. However, I was still unhappy with that because it seemed to have been wrapped up far too quickly. The story seemed to have trouble being built, reaching climax, but had no trouble going down that resolution slope being tied up in a sloppy bow, and thrown out in theaters. Perhaps the production team just said, "Forget it! You gave us a deadline, we're not done, but here! Here! Just take it!". I don't know.

The one thing I did appreciate was that an act of true love wasn't necessarily in the form in which you expect it to be in. However, when they first proposed that she needed an act of true love to cure her, I instantly guessed the ending, but assumed they wouldn't go down that route because they always go with the mushy love stuff. So I was very happy they actually went with what they did.

However, it was not a saving factor for the rest of the movie. Despite all the negative things I've said, it wasn't a terrible movie. It was just not reaching my expectation bar, which I may have subconsciously set really high due to my love for The Snow Queen, Kristen Bell, and Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Overall, I give it *** out of ***** stars.
Not bad.

So Late! Oh, so late!

I'm sorry, I know I promised to upload "tomorrow" like... a week and a half ago, but better late than never? Right? I have to get this in before my next classes! That's for sure! So much has happened in the past couple weeks. Wow, I'm reading through my blog and I have been really lazy on sharing.

Let's start from where I last left off with my Quick Sketch class. So in quick sketch, the following week was our Creature Design. We were to combine at least three different creatures to come up with something entirely new. We had to come up with a little background story and so on. I came up with the Ragarroth. We had to do a bunch of thumbnails though. I'll give you some of my favorite thumbnails.

The winning design was the one that I ended up filling out a little bit more, and he came out looking like this

I receieved a decent grade ont his and a decent review. He wished there were more local tone and he said some of the body overlapping didn't quite match. Like the stomach meeting the thigh doesn't make sense and the tail.

The following week, our assignment was to draw 3-5 drawings on 4 pages of "Props". Which for me, is very frustrating. I can't do mechanical, static, rigid things to save my life. However, once I got into the groove, things started getting better.

They got better over time, but I just have such an issue with realism. Things got very off track this week as well. So I went to my morning class on Thursday and suddenly, it began to snow outside. By the time we were done with class, the school had to close due to Dangerous Weather Conditions. I had a friend come pick me up from school and it took her an hour to get to me when it usually takes about 20 minutes. By the time she picked me up, the snow was about 3 inches. It took us 3 hours to get to her house. My mom was going to meet us there, and it took her three hours to get to my friends house. Finally they picked me up and it took us 3 hours to get home. So grand total, it took me 6 hours to get home. Which, it's usually only an hour's drive.
Then I got snowed in at my mom's house because we refused to go any further.

Here's pictures of us walking to Fred Meyer to get some food before we were completely snowed in

Okay, so now, for this week. We were told to redesign our creatures because Lee White feels that he (and the school) pushes us through classes too quickly and he wants to slow down and take our time on something. So he told us to take our creatures home and fix them up.

This was my end result:

So it's been a bit of a crazy couple weeks.
Oh, I also put my two weeks notice in at Walmart to further persue my education. That way, I won't have work to get in the way of me doing homework. My only batle now will be against my procrastination.

Oh, on top of that, we also adopted three little chicks so we can have some eggs when they get older!

Torchic, Janora, Majora

Like I said, big couple weeks. I promise to update more often.

Hallway Gallery

Last term, I took Intermediate Drawing and had two pieces submitted to the Hallway Gallery. They go to a panel of judges and are judged before being put up in the hallway. For the one that made the gallery, our assignment was to choose an artist from a specific art movement era, and copy their style with a minimum of four figures around a bus stop. It had to be done first in wet colored media, then done back over with a dry media.
I chose Ersnt Ludwig Kirchner from German Expressionism and placed my figures around a bus stop. However I wanted to use his stylized characters from the past and pull them into modern time. So I placed everyone around the bus stop and they were all looking down at their phones. First done in water color, then colored over top with chalk pastel. Done on 18x24

Here's the piece on the wall:

The other piece was a narrative table piece. It was to be done in one point or two point perspective. It had to have at least one ellipse (such as a vase, cup, or bowl), and suggest a figure (by implying someone is near like a shadow or a hand or by having just a figure). This had to be done in achromatic wet media and then a dry media.
My narrative table was of a young woman returning home drunk to her apartment. Done with india ink and chalk pastel.

here's the process to that piece:

Needless to say, Chalk pastel is veeeeeeeeery messy! But it's worth it. It's a media that you can manipulate very well. Nothing is ever really permanent and you can mix colors to your liking very easily. I love chalk pastel. I couldn't even attempt using oil pastel afterward. I do like the colored pencil, but for something that is this big, I didn't want to get that detailed with a fine tip colored pencil. Chalk pastel turned out perfect for this assignment.
